How Weekly Holiday Pay Works in Korea
Under Article 55 of the Korean Labor Standards Act, employers must grant at least one paid day off per week to eligible workers.
Eligibility: Work 15+ hours per week AND attend all scheduled workdays
Formula
1. Daily scheduled hours = Weekly hours ÷ Work days per week
2. Weekly holiday pay = Daily scheduled hours × Hourly wage
Example (₩10,030/hr, 5 days/week, 40 hrs/week)
- Daily hours: 40 ÷ 5 = 8 hrs
- Weekly holiday pay: 8 × ₩10,030 = ₩80,240
- Monthly holiday pay: ₩80,240 × 4.345 ≈ ₩348,643
