Three Checks Before Plugging In Abroad
1. Does the plug fit? (adapter)
Outlet types AβO vary by country β an adapter changes the shape only, never the voltage.
2. Does the voltage match? (converter)
Read the input label on each charger:
- `INPUT: 100-240V`: dual voltage β works worldwide with just an adapter. Nearly all laptop and phone chargers qualify.
- A single voltage (e.g., `INPUT: 120V`): using it on 220β240V without a converter destroys it. The classic casualties are hair dryers and straighteners.
3. Is it a high-wattage device?
Heat-producing devices need heavy-duty converters that are impractical to travel with. Use the hotel's hair dryer or buy a dual-voltage travel model instead.
Bonus: USB power banks and cables are voltage-independent β only the wall charger matters. Check its label once and you're done.
