BMI Calculator
Calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI) and find your healthy weight range using WHO standard or Asia-Pacific criteria.
What is BMI?
BMI (Body Mass Index) is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms by height in meters squared.
Formula: BMI = Weight (kg) Γ· Height (m)Β²
WHO Standard Classification
- Below 18.5: Underweight
- 18.5β24.9: Normal
- 25β29.9: Overweight
- 30 and above: Obese
WHO Asia-Pacific Classification (recommended for East Asians)
- Below 18.5: Underweight
- 18.5β22.9: Normal
- 23β24.9: Overweight
- 25 and above: Obese
BMI is a screening tool and does not measure body fat directly. Consult a healthcare provider for a full health assessment.
Interpreting your result
- Below 18.5: Underweight
- 18.5 β 24.9: Normal (WHO)
- 25 β 29.9: Overweight (WHO)
- 30 and above: Obese (WHO)
Many Asian countries, including Korea, use lower cutoffs (23 for overweight, 25 for obese) because metabolic risk rises at lower BMI in Asian populations. The same BMI can therefore be classified differently depending on the standard.
Limitations of BMI
BMI cannot distinguish muscle from fat. Athletes may register as overweight while being healthy, and a normal BMI can still hide abdominal obesity. Waist circumference is a useful complementary check.
